Rocker Bottom Feet

Rocker Bottom Feet may appear as a phenotypic characteristic of Trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome
or in Trisomy 13 (Patau’s Syndrom) or in Trisomy 9.Rocker Bottom Feet takes its name from the curved feet of
Rocking Chair (Rocker Chair).

In Trisomy 18 (edwards syndrome) rocking bottom feet are accompanied by
Microganathia, flexion defect in 3rd and 4th fingers , prominent occiput and Congenital heart disease.

Whereas in Trisomy 13 (Patau’s Synrome) rocking bottom feet are associated with
Polydactyly, Micropthlamia,cleft lip and palate.

(While in both trisomy 18 and trisomy 13 there is mental retardation as common feature)

This defect of feet occurs because TALUS is VERTICALLY Long and it makes the Calcaneus very Prominent.

Dear Reader, you must have seen logos similar to the above one along the names of hospitals or medical schools. Logos at your doctor’s clinic may be, where a Snake coils up around a rod . Such logos are full of meanings. There are many Mythical stories behind how and what gave rise to such a symbolization of Medical worlds.

The stories seem very real ,wherever you get to read one. Ancient days , Ancient Healers, Spiritual influences on both the healers and the sufferers they healed …these logos ,in fact, symbolize those ancient times.

SNAKE's venom was used in medicinal practice to cure diseases . Many a times its diluted form given for oral intake, many a times applied to wounds. It must have worked in those old times,of course with certain species of snakes’ venom. Snake also symbolized the 'precious extracts from herbs' - such that , it was as hard to get those extracts like finding the right snake and getting its venom ,saving from its fangs !
That Snake is called the SERPENT in medical logos.

The ROD around which snakes are rising and coiling up, represents the ROD that ancient healers held with them. You must have seen in photos/movies that ancient days are symbolized such that the well reputed personalities always hold a ROD with them, back then that heavy wooden ROD was considered authority/knowledge /and symbolized a person with Sacred Healing Powers.

& the WINGS which are in some medical logos symbolize that we are always flying higher , and higher, soaring to new heights of healing powers, with our medicine(the serpent) and the ROD(sacred knowledge).

What is Graft-vs.-host disease ? & What are the types of Graft vs Host Disease (GVHD) ?

 

Graft-vs.-host disease is an immune attack on the recipient by cells from a donor

Graft versus host disease (GVHD) occurs when immunologically competent cells are introduced into an immunoincompetent host

The main problem with transplanting organs and tissues is that the recipient host does not recognize the new tissue as its own.

Instead, it attacks it as foreign in the same way it attacks germs, to destroy it.

If immunogenic cells from the donor are transplanted along with the organ or tissue, they will attack the host, causing graft vs. host disease.

The only transplanted tissues that house enough immune cells to cause graft vs. host disease are the blood and the bone marrow

TYPES OF GVHD include :

Acute GVHD occurs within the first 100 days of transplantation and consists of the triad of

–dermatitis,

–enteritis, and

–hepatitis.

Chronic GVHD develops after day 100 and consists of an autoimmune syndrome directed toward multiple organs.

Because the skin often is the earliest organ affected in GVHD, dermatologists are crucial members of the patient's treatment team.
