Classification Of Anti –Emetics
Anti-Emetics: Anti-Emetics are the drugs used to check nausea and vomiting.
Anti-emetic Drug classification is as follows ..
A. Centrally Anti-Emetics:
1.Dopamine D2 Receptor Antagonists:
Haloperidol.
2.Sedative Hypnotics:
Barbiturates(Pentobarbital), Benzodiazepines(Diazepam).
B. Central and Peripheral Anti-Emetics:
1.Anti-Cholinergics:
Atropine, Hyoscine.
2.Antihistamines(H1 Receptor Antagonists):
Cyclizine, Meclizine, Diphenhydramine, Promethazine, Cinnarizine.
3.5-HT3 Receptor Antagonists:
Ondansetron, Granisetron, Tropisetron.
4.Tranquillizers(Depressants of CTZ):
Domperidone, Phenothiazines (Chloropromazine, Prochlorperazine,Acepromazine).
5.Accelerators of Gastric Emptying:
Metocloperamide.
C. Peripheral Anti-Emetics:
1.Demulcents:
Gum Acacia, Gum Tragacanths.
2.Adsorbents & Astringents:
Aluminium Hydroxide, Kaolin, Bismuth Carbonate.
3.Gastric Mucosal Anesthetics:
Chlorobutane, Oxethazaine, Dilute Hydrocyanic Acid.
D. Drugs Acting By Removing Spasm
1.Relieving Myogenic Spasm:
Volatile Oils, Spirits, Camphor, Menthol, Chloroform.
2.Relieving Neurogenic Spasm:
Atropine, Hyoscine, Propantheline.
