Topographically, uterus is divisible into fundus, body and cervix. The uterine wall in each region is composed of following three coats from without inwards: Outer layer, serosa or perimetrium Middle layer, muscularis or myometrium. Inner layer, mucosa or endometrium.
PROLIFERATIVE OR ESTROGENIC OR FOLLICULAR PHASE: It lasts from 5th to 14™ day of the cycle. The epithelium of basal parts of uterine glands of stratum basale regenerates to replace the sloughed endometrium along with proliferation of stroma. The uterine glands become narrow and straight. The epithelium of glands becomes rich in glycogen. The endometrial thickness is doubled or tripled (2 mm thick or more).
