LABORATORY TESTS & UNDERSTANDING THEM :

LABORATORY TESTS & UNDERSTANDING THEM :

(This text is intended to be read by those persons who are not doctors and want to understand dengue , if you are a doctor please read this article : A GLIMPSE ON DENGUE FEVER(click here)

Two types of tests are being done to evaluate a patient of dengue . These are :
1. CBC Test
2. Serological IgM and IgG Test

CBC Test means Complete Blood Count. By this test blood cells are counted. It is through this test that the patient comes to know that his Platelet Cells are decreasing and then he begins to get tense(though its nothing to worry about , and that its normal in this disease. Your doctor will also tell you the same).

Serological IgM and IgG Tests :
In simple words, If in a report it says that IgM is Positive then it means that there is high chance that you have Dengue.
If IgM is negative then it means that there is very high chance that you do not have dengue.

If IgG is positive and more than 0.9 then it means that you may have dengue previously too(before the current attack of dengue you got)
